…distributes water pump, knapsack sprayers, etc
In tune with its core mandate of sharing love, the Mary Slessor-AkanGlo Foundation has distributed free knapsack sprayers, water pump and other supports to selected farmers across the 31 LGAs of Akwa Ibom state.
Speaking at the event, which was held at the Foundation’s office on Friday, 14 February, the President/Founder of the Foundation and former Dean of Akwa Ibom state Honourable Commissioners and Special Advisers, Dr. Glory Edet, said that the gesture was a conscious effort to identify with Akwa Ibom farmers and support them with the needed equipments to make their work easier and enhance high productivity, especially during this dry season.
“We deal with different categories of people as enshrined in the core objectives of the Mary Slessor-AkanGlo Foundation.” She said.
Dr. Edet appreciated the Governor, His Excellency, Pastor (Dr.)Umo Eno for prioritizing Agriculture in the state as well captured in the ARISE agenda.
She also gave a brief history of the life and times of the Scottish Presbyterian missionary to Nigeria, Mary Mitchel Slessor, her impacts in the society as well as the different empowerment programmes executed by the Foundation. She charged beneficiaries to make good use of the equipments given to them and prayed for God to bless their farming businesses.
“By the special grace of God, this foundation will be doing a lot to encourage people in need within our capacity, including assisting multiple-birth parents and children, less-privileged widows as well as training our young ones in different skills.” She added.
In her welcome remarks, the Coordinator of the foundation, Mrs. Jane Michael Essien while welcoming all present, noted that there can’t be a sustainable society without agriculture. She charged the beneficiaries to be diligent in all they do and make good use of the equipments received, and also stated that there will be a monitoring team to ensure the equipments are used for the purpose being given.
In their separate goodwill messages, state Chairman of All Farmers Association ( AFAN), Prince Bassey Inwang, the leader of Women in Agriculture, the leader of Youths in Agriculture , Prince Offiong as well as the leader of Women in Agriculture, Mrs Margaret Nya appreciated the foundation for their commitment towards the welfare and productivity of farmers in the state and other groups. They promised to make sure the equipments are utilised effectively for massive productivity.
