oAWLO Honours Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation
…founder dedicates Award to God and the less privileged
The African Women in Leadership Organization (AWLO) has honoured the Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation ( MASLAG) in recognition of the exceptional contributions of the Foundation to women/ youth empowerment and other humanitarian services
The prestigious award was presented during AWLO’s 16th Anniversary Celebration held on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria and attracted distinguished guests from government, academia, civil society, and the private sector.
According to AWLO, MASLAG was selected for the honour in recognition of the Foundation’s selfless services and impacts on vulnerable groups, including widows, orphans, indigent students, parents of multiple births, and other less privileged persons, through the sustained interventions of the Mary Slessor-AkanGlo Foundation.
The Founder of Mary Slessor -Akan Glo Foundation, An Associate Professor, Dr. Glory Edet has remained a strong advocate for women empowerment, sustainable livelihoods and community development both in public office and private life. Through her foundation, she has consistently provided educational support, welfare assistance, empowerment programmes, and humanitarian relief to underserved communities across the state.
In her acceptance speech, Dr. Edet expressed profound gratitude to God Almighty and the leadership of AWLO for the recognition, describing the Award as an encouragement to do more. She dedicated the honour to God and the many beneficiaries whose lives, she noted, continue to inspire her passion for humanitarian work. She reaffirmed her commitment to expanding the reach of the Mary Slessor-AkanGlo Foundation and deepening its impact on vulnerable citizens.
The anniversary ceremony was a colourful and well-attended event, featuring the induction of new members, He for She recognitions, cultural displays, dance performances, lectures, and the presentation of Awards to other distinguished individuals who have made significant contributions to leadership and community development.
The event once again underscored AWLO’s mission of celebrating excellence, inspiring leadership, and promoting inclusive development while honouring individuals whose lives exemplify service, impact, and integrity.
