MARY SLESSOR-AKAN GLO FOUNDATION CELEBRATES FIRST ANNIVERSARY WITH PASTORS’ WIVES WIDOWS ...shares food items, financial support to pastors' widows, etc







The founder of Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation (MASLAG), Dr. Glory Edet has attributed the successes recorded by the foundation in the last one year to God's grace and mercy.


Dr. Edet stated this at the first anniversary celebration of the foundation which was held at the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Uyo Parish, 73 Wellington Bassey Way, Friday, June 28.


She paid tribute to the late Mary Slessor by reminiscing about the journey which took the late missionary to Ikpe Ikot Nkon in Ini LGA and the wonderful story of how she stopped the killing of twins and other multiple birth children and the banishment of their mothers in Nigeria.


The former Dean of Honourable Commissioners and Special Advisers in the state, recalled that the foundation which was officially inaugurated in June 28, 2023 was inaugurated to sustain the legacies of Mary Mitchel Slessor, support multiple birth children and parents, students, youths, women, etc, who are in need within the capacity of the foundation .








Dr. Edet also eulogized the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno for providing a conducive environment in the state and as well as caring for the less privileged in the state. She also thanked the wife of the Governor, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno for her zeal in supporting this administration and for her commitment in touching lives through her pet project, GIFA.

























In a review of development in the past one year, Dr. Edet said her Foundation has kept faith with its mission mandate in providing scholarships to students in tertiary institutions, training and empowering of youths with financial business grants, distribution of business grants to multiple-birth parents and children, empowerment of widows with business support, distribution of sewing machines, hair dryers and washing trays to skilled women, distribution of baby-support packages/payment of hospital bills for multiple-birth mothers,etc.


"By the grace of God, we will try our best to continue touching lives” She added. Dr. Edet also appreciated donors, supporters and friends of the Foundation.


The Chairman BOT, MASLAG, Dr. Akaninyene Akankpo noted that it is not about the items given, but about the heart of the giver. He advised the women to keep the candle of hope burning, pray for their children and hope for better days.


The Coordinator of MASLAG, Mrs. Jane Michael Essien appreciated God for His grace on the foundation to create tremendous impact in just one year. She charged the widows to be prayerful and hopeful knowing too well that God will never leave them.


Also speaking, the Honorary Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Affairs Rev. Ndueso Ekwere while wishing the foundation a happy one year anniversary eulogized the founder of MASLAG for the strides her Foundation has recorded in just one year and prayed for the foundation to continue to wax stronger.


In their seperate goodwill messages Rt. Rev. Itohowo Johnson the Clerk of Abasi Ibom Synod, Rev. Edet James, Chaplain, Mary Slessor Chapel appreciated the Founder of MASLAG for her passion in touching lives through her Foundation and also prayed for the foundation and its upcoming events.


The event also featured Exortation by Rt. Rev. Theophilus Bassey, the Akwa Synod Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria as well as prayers for MASLAG, pastors' widows ,churches, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria.


High point of the event featured the distribution of food items and financial assistance to pastors' widows.
