MARY SLESSOR-AKAN GLO FOUNDATION EMPOWERS MULTIPLE BIRTH PARENTS WITH TRIPLETS, TWO OR MORE SET OF TWINS, OTHERS




In line with its core mandate which include caring for multiple-birth parents, children and the less-privileged, the Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation (MASLAG) has empowered multiple-birth parents with triplets, those with more than one set of twins and others, with financial support for small businesses and other items to 350 beneficiaries across the 31 LGAs of Akwa Ibom state.



Presenting the packages at an empowerment programme tagged "Empowerment of Multiple Birth Mothers with Triplets, More than a set of Twins, Etc", which was held on Tuesday, 30th April, 2024, the President/Founder of the Foundation and former Dean of Commissioners/Special Advisers in Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Glory Edet, eulogized the impacts of the legendary Scottish Missionary to Nigeria, extolling how she stopped the killing of multiple birth children alongside her great impacts to humanity and society. Dr. Edet also stated that the aim of the Foundation is to support the multiple birth parents and children, the less privileged, widows,  persons with disabilities, women, etc. within the capacity of the foundation. Among other responsibilities are to restore hope to the hopeless and the oppressed through counselling, skills acquisition, etc.



"Irrespective of where you find yourselves, always give thanks to God for making you multiple-birth parents and be hopeful for better days", she added.



She charged the beneficiaries to be good ambassadors and make judicious use of the cash support given to them for the betterment of their lives.



In her welcome remarks, the Coordinator, Mary Slessor-Akan Glo Foundation, Mrs. Jane Mike noted that the programme was in line with the legacies of Mary Slessor who was not only renowned for the stopping of killing of twins but also for her huge impact on the less-privileged and others in need.



In their seperate goodwill messages, The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Margaret Edem and Mrs. Precious Lazarus appreciated Dr. Edet for her good heart. They encouraged the women to make good use of the financial assistance given to them.



The event also featured a talk on "Earning a Living"  by Mrs. Edima Ndaobong. She encouraged the women to be business oriented and invest in what has been given to them.
