MARY SLESSOR-AKANGLO FOUNDATION MARKS INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD


As the world marks the 2023 International Day of the Girl Child with the theme, "Invest in Girls Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being", the Mary Slessor-AkanGlo Foundation, has celebrated the importance, power and potential of girl children in the world while advocating for better opportunities for the girl-child.


Marking the 2023 World Girl Child Day with special children at the Gospel Village, Abak, the Founder of Mary Slessor - Akan Glo Foundation, Dr. Glory Edet expressed that the aspiration of the foundation, being to continue with Mary Slessor's humanitarian services, visited the special children home to reinvigorate hope among the girl children at the special children home and charged them to be diligent in all they do and know that with God, they’ll be great women in future. She encouraged them to be bold in all sectors of human endeavours as they have equal opportunities with their male counterparts.


Dr. Edet who commended the leadership of Gospel Village Special Children Home for caring for the children, charged parents, and guardians to be deliberate in bringing up the girl children in their homes without discrimination, or stigmatisation. She urged parents and guardians to provide equal access to education, reproductive healthcare and gender sensitivity, in tackling the plight of the girl-child.


The Mary Slessor- Akan Glo Foundation as part of the activities to mark the Day of the Girl Child presented gift items to all girls in the Home, food items, financial support and other items to the special children of Gospel Village Special Children. School fees were also presented to one of the girls, Miss Grace Simeon who has been sponsored by Dr. Edet. The Foundation has promised to sponsor her till she finishes her University education


The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Foundation, Dr. Akaninyene Akankpo appreciated the management of the Home for their love towards the children. He further thanked God for Mary Slessor who came to this part of the world to stop the killing of twins and other humanitarian services and gave assurance that by the grace of God, the Foundation will continue to assist the less privileged in memory of Mary Slessor and late Chief Akankpo of Ini LGA who lived with her. The Coordinator of the Foundation, Mrs. Jane Essien charged parents to always invest in the rights of the girl Child for they will definitely reap the fruits in future.


In their separate remarks, the Matron, Mrs Promise Essien, and Prof. Aniekan Ekanem applauded Dr. Edet for choosing Gospel Village Special Children Home to celebrate the 2023 Girl Child Day and the presentation of two-semester school fees to Miss Grace Simon who has been on scholarship by the Foundation, the appointment of Godwin Sampson as one of the Ambassadors of Mary Slessor Akan- Glo foundation, Uniuyo and the Presentation of food and non-food items to the Home as well as gifts to all the girls


The leadership of the special home prayed for Mary Slessor-AkanGlo Foundation to continue with the selfless service of Mary Slessor and the principles of the foundation, particularly, in the area of giving hope to the hopeless through charity.
